The Australian dollar strengthened to 1.4080 per USD in August, from 1.4361 in July. The August reading marked a decline after two consecutive monthly increases and was down from 1.5405 a year earlier. It remained below the all-time high of 1.99608 (April 2001) and above the all-time low of 0.67227 (June 1974), according to the International Monetary Fund.

The value remains far below the all-time high of 1.9961 set in April 2001 and well above the series low of 0.6723 from June 1974. The data series extends back to January 1957.
