Bulgaria Construction GDP Extends Streak to 15
Bulgaria's GDP from construction rose to 113.608% in the second quarter of 2026 from 112.472% in the previous quarter. This marks the 15th consecutive quarterly increase and the highest reading since the second quarter of 2010. The index was 109.245% a year earlier and has climbed steadily from 92.35% in the second quarter of 2023. Despite the sustained rise, it remains well below the all-time high of 162.836% reached in the first quarter of 2009, according to Eurostat.
Romania GDP From Public Administration Falls
Romania's GDP from public administration fell to 110.087% in the second quarter of 2026, from 114.687% in the previous quarter. The reading was the lowest since the 110.223% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, and remained below the 112.089% level from a year earlier. The series all-time high of 169.271% was set in the fourth quarter of 2000, and the all-time low of 81.088% in the fourth quarter of 2007, according to Eurostat.
Euro Area Public Admin GDP Hits Record
Euro Area GDP from public administration rose to 114.11% in the second quarter of 2026, from 113.495% in the first quarter, a new all-time high. The index stood at 112.724% a year earlier and has risen for five consecutive quarters, climbing from 112.358% in the first quarter of 2025. The previous record was set in the prior quarter. The series has risen from its all-time low of 80.146% in the first quarter of 1995, according to Eurostat.
Bulgaria GDP From Agriculture Rises To 3-Yr High
Bulgaria's GDP from agriculture rose to 127.199% in the second quarter of 2026, from 125.865% in the previous quarter. The reading was 122.573% a year earlier and marked the highest since the fourth quarter of 2022. It remains below the all-time high of 210.46% recorded in the fourth quarter of 1997, while the all-time low of 82.103% dates to the third quarter of 2007, according to Eurostat.
Euro Area GDP From Agriculture Falls
Euro Area GDP from agriculture fell to 99.757% in the second quarter of 2026, from 99.807% in the previous quarter. The reading is the lowest since the second quarter of 2025, when it stood at 99.527%. Compared to the same quarter a year earlier, the index was higher, up from 99.527%. The series remains well below its all-time high of 102.284% recorded in the second quarter of 2021, according to Eurostat.
Romania GDP From Construction Climbs
Romania's GDP from construction rose to 150.257% in the second quarter of 2026 from 138.201% in the previous quarter. The latest reading is the highest since the first quarter of 2009, though it remains below the all-time high of 163.07% set in the second quarter of 2008, according to Eurostat.
Greece GDP From Construction Rebounds
Greece's GDP from construction rose to 185.603% in the second quarter of 2026, from 166.971% in the previous quarter. The reading is the highest since the first quarter of 2011 and extends a series that has shown an upward trend over recent quarters, though it remains well below the all-time high of 478.974% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2006, according to Eurostat.
Canada FX vs USD Falls in August
Canada's official period-average FX rate versus the USD fell to 1.3904 in August, from 1.4096 in July. The August level was above the 1.3802 recorded a year earlier and above the 1.3651 recorded in February. It remains far below the all-time high of 1.6003 in January 2002 and far above the all-time low of 0.9477 from October 1959, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Hungary Official FX Edges Down to 314.08
Hungary's official period-average exchange rate against the US dollar fell to 314.08 forints in August 2026, from 314.43 in July. The August reading reversed part of the July increase from 307.21. The exchange rate has fluctuated between 306.91 and 336.73 over the past six months. The forint has strengthened from 341.10 a year earlier, and remains well below the all-time high of 426.10 recorded in October 2022, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Australia FX vs USD Falls to 1.4080
The Australian dollar strengthened to 1.4080 per USD in August, from 1.4361 in July. The August reading marked a decline after two consecutive monthly increases and was down from 1.5405 a year earlier. It remained below the all-time high of 1.99608 (April 2001) and above the all-time low of 0.67227 (June 1974), according to the International Monetary Fund.
US 30-Year Mortgage Rate Rises to 6.71%
The 30-year mortgage rate rose to 6.71% in the week ending September 3, 2026, from 6.66% previously. The rate is the highest since July 31, 2025, and compares with 6.50% a year earlier.
It has risen from a recent low of 6.43% in early July and remains well below the all-time high of 18.63% set in October 1981, but far above the record low of 2.65% from January 2021, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
US 15-Year Mortgage Rate Edges Up to 6.04%
The 15-year mortgage rate rose to 6.04% in the week ending September 3, from 5.98% previously. The rate matched the level last seen in the week of July 30, 2026, and remained well above the year-ago reading of 5.6%. The all-time high for the series, which began in August 1991, is 8.89% set in December 1994, while the all-time low of 2.1% was recorded in August 2021, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
U.S. Central Bank Balance Sheet Edges Up
The U.S. central bank balance sheet rose to $6.74 trillion in the week ended September 2, 2026, from $6.73 trillion the prior week. The level is below the all-time high of $8.97 trillion set in April 2022 but above the year-ago reading of $6.60 trillion. The weekly figure has fluctuated between $6.72 trillion and $6.76 trillion over the past three months, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
US 10-Year Yield Rises to 8-Month High
The yield on the US 10-year government bond rose to 4.79% on September 1, from 4.75% on August 31. It marked the fifth consecutive daily increase and the highest level since January 13, 2025. A year earlier, the yield was 4.28%. The yield, while far above its all-time low of 0.52% from August 2020, remains well below the record 15.84% from September 1981, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
US 2-Year Government Bond Yield Rises to 4.39%
The 2-year US government bond yield rose to 4.39% on September 1, from 4.34% on August 31. The yield was 3.66% a year earlier, and its all-time high is 16.95% from September 9, 1981, against a record low of 0.09% on February 5, 2021. The latest reading is the highest since January 13, 2025, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
US Consumer Spending Edges Up to Record
Consumer spending rose to 16901.3 USD billions in the third quarter of 2026, from 16900.0 USD billions in the previous quarter. The reading marks a new all-time high since the series began in 2007, extending a rising streak to 15 consecutive quarters. Spending was up from 16614.3 USD billions a year earlier, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
US 5-Year Inflation Expectations Edge Up
US 5-year inflation expectations edged up to 2.33% in September 2026 from 2.31% in August, marking the third consecutive monthly increase. The reading is the highest since August 2025, when it stood at 2.31%, and remains well below the all-time high of 2.97% set in November 2008, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
US Bank Lending Rate Holds at 6.75%
The US bank lending rate held at 6.75% in September, unchanged from August. The rate has remained at that level since December 2025, marking ten consecutive months of stability. A year earlier, the rate was 7.25%. The all-time high was 21.5% in December 1980, and the low was 3.25% in February 2022, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Latvia Consumer Confidence Edges Down

Romania's business confidence index rose to -2.5 in August 2026 from -2.8 in July, marking the highest reading since February 2026. The index remains well below its all-time high of 27.3 in June 1996 and above the record low of -32.1 in April 2020. A year earlier, the index stood at -2.1, according to Eurostat.
Belgium Consumer Confidence Falls to -16.3
Belgium consumer confidence fell to -16.3 in August from -15.9 in July. The reading is lower than the -12.7 recorded a year earlier and remains far from the series' all-time high of 5.4 set in November 2000, but above the all-time low of -28.1 from September 2022. The index has been in negative territory for over a year, according to Eurostat.
Malta Consumer Confidence Falls in August
Malta's consumer confidence index fell to 2.9 in August from 6.2 in July, marking a second consecutive monthly decline. The reading remained above the 2.0 recorded in August 2025. Within the past year, the index peaked at 13.9 in June and bottomed at 1.8 in March. It stayed well above its all-time low of -35.6 from May 2012 and below its all-time high of 16.1 from February 2018, according to Eurostat.

Cyprus consumer confidence rose to -15.5 in August 2026 from -19.9 in July, the highest reading since February 2026. The index remains well below its all-time high of 3.6 in March 2003 and above the record low of -60.3 in April 2013. A year earlier, the index stood at -13.4, according to Eurostat.
Swedish Krona Rebounds vs USD in August
The Swedish krona appreciated to 9.5084 per USD in August 2026, from 9.6746 in July. The August reading is the lowest since June 2026 (9.5124) and remains far above the all-time low of 3.9165 from June 1975. On a year-over-year basis, the krona gained from 9.5959 in August 2025, according to the International Monetary Fund.
UK Consumer Confidence Rises to 2-Year High
UK consumer confidence rose to -8 in August from -11.75 in July. The reading was the highest since August 2024, according to the OECD. The index remains far below its all-time high of 12 set in May 1978 but has recovered from a low of -19 in April 2026. It is also above the -10.5 recorded a year earlier and well above the all-time low of -43.5 in September 2022. The August figure marks a notable improvement from the recent trough.
US Policy Rate Holds at 3.625%
The US policy benchmark interest rate held at 3.625% in August 2026, unchanged from July 2026. The rate has remained at this level since December 2025, when it fell from 3.875%. The current level is down from 4.375% a year earlier. The series low is 0.125% from February 2022, and the all-time high is 22% from December 1980, according to the Bank for International Settlements.
US Unemployment Rate Holds at 4.1%
The US unemployment rate held at 4.1% in August, unchanged from July. The rate is down from 4.3% a year earlier. Non-farm payrolls rose by 159,075 in August, and the labor force participation rate was 61.6%, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Portugal Consumer Confidence Falls to -20.4
Portugal's consumer confidence index fell to -20.4 in August from -19.5 in July. The reading is below the -17.8 recorded a year earlier and reverses a four-month recovery from April's -28.8. The index remains well above its all-time low of -47.8 set in October 2012, according to Eurostat.
Canada FX Reserves Rise to 6-Month High
Canada's foreign-exchange reserves rose to USD 127.4 billion in August from USD 127.0 billion in July, the highest since February 2026. The August figure remained below the all-time high of USD 128.8 billion set in October 2025 and was also lower than the year-earlier reading of USD 127.9 billion. The increase reversed a decline from the June low of USD 126.4 billion and marked the second consecutive monthly rise. Over the past 12 months, reserves have ranged between USD 126.4 billion and USD 128.8 billion, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Poland Consumer Confidence Falls in August
Poland's consumer confidence index fell to -13.9 in August from -12.1 in July, marking the first decline in three months after rising in both June and July. Over the past eight months, the index has fluctuated within a range of -11.8 to -16.5. The August reading is slightly below the year-ago level of -13.7 and remains far from the series all-time high of -0.8 in June 2019 and the record low of -42.5 in October 2022, according to Eurostat.
US Business Confidence Falls from July High
US business confidence fell to 9.2 in August from 11.2 in July, according to the OECD. The index pulled back after hitting a near-term high, though it remained well above the all-time low of -41.2 recorded in May 1980. The reading has been in positive territory since January 2026, when it stood at 5.2 after ending 2025 at -4.2. A year earlier, in August 2025, the index was -2.6.
Denmark Business Confidence Falls a Third Month
Business confidence in Denmark fell to -18.5 in August from -17.6 in July. The reading marked the third straight monthly decline, following -17.1 in June and -14.4 in May. It remained far below the series high of 12.3 set in December 1984 and above the all-time low of -42.5 from February 2009. The index stood at -14.5 a year earlier, according to Eurostat.
US Gasoline Prices Fall for the Week
US gasoline prices fell to 4.071 USD per gallon in the week ended August 31, from 4.085 previously. After declining from a mid-June level of 4.146 to a low of 3.777 in early July, prices rebounded to 4.096 in late July, then fluctuated near 4.08 in August. The price remains far below the all-time high of 5.006 set in June 2022. The latest reading is still well above the year-ago value of 3.177, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Türkiye Business Confidence Rebounds
Business confidence in Türkiye rose to 0.3 in August 2026 from -1.1 in July. The index moved into positive territory for the first time since February 2026, when it stood at 2.0, and was the highest reading in six months compared with -1.6 a year earlier, according to Eurostat.
Bulgaria Business Confidence Edges Up
Bulgaria's business confidence index rose to -4 in August 2026 from -4.2 in July, according to Eurostat. The reading remains in negative territory for the fourth consecutive month. The index is down sharply from 1.0 in December 2025 and stands well below its all-time high of 11.9 in January 2008.

Greece's business confidence index rose to 3.7 in August from 2.8 in July, ending two consecutive monthly declines. The reading was down sharply from 10.8 a year earlier and remained well below the series' all-time high of 13.7 set in January 2022. The gauge is still far above its record low of -37.3 recorded in March 2009, according to Eurostat.
Korea Business Confidence Rises in August
Korea's business confidence index rose to -4.66666666666667 in August from -6.33333333333333 in July. The reading is the highest since June 2022 and compares with -14.3333333333 a year earlier. The index remains below its all-time high of 65 from February 1998 and above its all-time low of -37.6666666667 from December 2008. The monthly series began in July 1991, according to the OECD.
Mexican Peso Falls to 17.0963 per USD in August
The Mexican peso fell to 17.0963 per USD in August 2026, from 17.4733 in July, its lowest level since May 2024. The August rate was below both the year-ago level of 18.7204 and the January 2026 level of 17.7101. The series, which started in January 1957, spans from an all-time high of 24.2579 per USD in April 2020 to an all-time low of 0.0125 per USD in June 1974, according to the International Monetary Fund.
UK Business Confidence Rebounds in August
UK business confidence rose to -8.2 in August from -22.7 in July. The index, which remains negative, improved from -14.2 a year earlier. The reading is 43 points above the all-time low of -51.2 from September 1980 and 34.7 points below the all-time high of 26.5 recorded in November 2021. The index has been negative for the past 13 months, according to the OECD.
India Rupee Falls from Record High
The Indian rupee fell to 95.4741 per US dollar in August from 95.821 in July, according to the International Monetary Fund, marking a retreat from the record high set in July. The August reading is the third-highest in the past 12 months and remains well above the 87.518 seen a year earlier, with the series dating back to January 1957 and the all-time low of 4.7619 recorded in May 1966. The rupee has traded above 90 per USD since March 2026.
Lithuania Consumer Confidence Rises to 9-Mo High
Lithuania's consumer confidence index rose to 2.4 in August from 1.1 in July. The index has risen for four consecutive months, recovering from a low of -2.9 in April, and is the highest since November 2025. The index turned positive in July after four months of negative readings. The reading compares with 1.5 a year earlier. The index is below its all-time high of 12.1 in March 2007 and above its all-time low of -37.7 in November 2009, according to Eurostat.
Czech Koruna Falls to 20.858 vs USD
Czech koruna fell to 20.858 per US dollar in August from 21.204 in July. The August reading was below the year-ago level of 21.079. The latest rate remains well below the all-time high of 41.125 recorded in October 2000 and above the all-time low of 14.920 from July 2008, according to the International Monetary Fund.
China Business Confidence Rises in August
China's business confidence index rose to -0.4 in August from -1.6 in July. The reading remained negative for the second straight month, though it was above the year-ago level of -1.2. The index is far from the all-time high of 18.4 set in April 2008 and the all-time low of -28.6 in February 2020, according to the OECD.
Singapore FX vs USD Edges Down in August
The Singapore dollar edged up against the US dollar in August, with the period-average exchange rate falling to 1.27649 LCU/USD from 1.2914 in July. The August value was the lowest since May 2026's 1.2756 and moved closer to the all-time low of 1.2088 set in August 2011. The rate was 1.2856 a year earlier, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Ireland Unemployment Rate Holds at 5% in August
Ireland's unemployment rate held at 5.0% in August, unchanged from July. The rate was 4.9% a year earlier. Over the past year, it has ranged from 4.6% in November 2025 to 5.0% in several months, including five of the past eight. The August reading matches the level seen in January, February, March, and July 2026. It remains well below the series high of 17.1% recorded in September 1985 and above the all-time low of 3.9% from April 2001, according to Eurostat.
US Bank Lending Rate Holds at 6.75%
The US bank lending rate held at 6.75% in August 2026, unchanged from July. The rate has been at 6.75% for nine consecutive months since December 2025, after declining from a year-earlier level of 7.5%. The current rate stands more than three percentage points above the all-time low of 3.25% recorded in February 2022, and far below the record high of 21.5% set in December 1980, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Thai Baht Rebounds Against USD in August
The Thai baht strengthened to 33.01 per dollar in August 2026, from 33.49 in July. This reversed part of the previous month's decline and brought the currency back toward the mid-range of the past year, after touching 31.27 in February—its firmest level since at least early 2025. The baht remains well above its record low of 53.81 set in January 1998, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Luxembourg consumer confidence rose to -9.1 in August 2026 from -9.8 in July, marking the fifth consecutive monthly increase. August's reading was the highest since February 2026 and exceeded the year-ago level of -9.4, while remaining well below the series high of 3.6 from February 2002 and far above the all-time low of -29.9 from September 2022, according to Eurostat.
