The index pulled back after hitting a near-term high, though it remained well above the all-time low of -41.2 recorded in May 1980. The reading has been in positive territory since January 2026, when it stood at 5.2 after ending 2025 at -4.2. A year earlier, in August 2025, the index was -2.6.
