China's official period-average exchange rate fell to 6.7366 yuan per US dollar in August 2026, from 6.7762 in July. The decline extends a 12-month streak of falling values. The August reading, the lowest since July 2022, compares with 7.1747 a year earlier. The series, which began in 1957, has an all-time high of 8.7028 in March 1994 and an all-time low of 1.4525 in July 1980, according to the International Monetary Fund.
