The increase followed a decline in the previous week and kept claims near the lower end of the range seen over the past three months. Initial jobless claims, a separate measure, totaled 204,000 in the same week. The latest reading is well below the series high of 23,130,000 set in May 2020 and remains below the 1,937,000 recorded a year earlier, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
