Total vehicle sales rose to 17.19 million units in August 2026 from 16.757 million in July, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis reported. The August reading was the highest since June's 17.221 million and stood well above the year-ago level of 16.9 million. Sales remain below the all-time high of 22.055 million set in October 2001.
